Betty Jane Jacobs is an attorney with wide experience in cases encompassing a wide range of matters, including:
Ms. Jacobs has prepared appellate briefs and successfully argued numerous appeals, both on behalf of her clients and as “of counsel” to other attorneys, many of whom seek her advice on legal questions pertaining to landlord-tenant matters. The decisions in cases in which she has successfully represented her clients are often cited by other courts and noted in commentaries that accompany statutes.
Ms. Jacobs counsels her clients regarding issues that arise in their businesses. She routinely examines proposed contracts and agreements to make sure that they are statutorily compliant and reflective of the current state of the law. That same attention to detail benefits the landlords and tenants she counsels concerning lease rights, obligations, and remedies. Her litigation experience serves her well when she is negotiating and drafting non-competition agreements, license agreements for telecommunications providers seeking access to commercial buildings, and written leases for commercial premises. Equally important, she answers her clients’ phone calls and emails as quickly as possible so that small problems do not become big ones.
Ms. Jacobs is an active member of her synagogue and has served on its committees concerned with social justice and immigrant rights. She is also a founder of a fund that raises money to bring artists to work with students at a local elementary school, and has used her skills to aid a group of public schools that have pioneered the practice of performative evaluations in lieu of standard testing.
She is a graduate of New York University and Fordham Law School.
